Despite the heavy rain that battered the area around us, we managed to arrive at the school on time. Inside the small school campus, we were greeted in the main area by over 50 students each wearing yellow, gym uniforms. They were sitting uniformly and very intently, waiting for us to arrive. After they saw the big boxes of toys that we were bringing in, they became ecstatic and the mood of the atmosphere instantly brightened.
Unfortunately, most of the children at the school were unable to speak in words to express their feelings. However, the way their eyes glistened when they were receiving the toys, spoke clearly and helped us to understand their gratitude and happiness. After receiving their toys and a small snack from the teaching staff, they sang a song for us called ‘Cả nhà thương nhau’.
“This educational center was originally founded by my brother who was a monk. However, he passed away after years of maintaining and running the center -- after which I took over. The staff who work at this center volunteer and all do it for the purpose of treating and educating the children, not for the purpose of getting a paycheck.” – Ms. Bảy, Director of the Center
At the end of the visit, Vitamin C donated 9.5 million VND to the center in order to assist in maintaining its expensive costs and also to allow the facility to purchase training equipment for the children.
